Attention, Parents! You Might Want To Hold On To Your Kids’ Baby Teeth

0

Cryopreservation of stem cells may sound like science fiction, but I assure you, it is not.

According to scientists, baby teeth have stem cells that help regenerate various parts of the body, so one day, these tiny teeth could save lives.

Some parents have taken this to heart and have started storing their children’s teeth for the future. This is called tooth banking.

Doctor Reveals 7 Health Conditions You Can Spot By Just Checking Your Nails

0

You can learn a lot about a person by their fingernails, especially when it comes to health. Anomalies such as changes in shape and color can indicate medical conditions such as psoriasis, heart disease, and even cancer.

But keep in mind that brittle or discolored nails are not typically a cause for alarm since they can come from injuries, dampness, poor nutrition, or age.

“For the general population, nail health is most often an indicator of poor nutritional intake or poor digestion,” explains Dr. Sara Norris, a naturopathic doctor based in Los Angeles.

“Brittle, weak, and peeling nails are the most common concerns I see in my practice and these symptoms are more often the result of a poor diet than of systemic disease.”

So don’t panic if your nails resemble these descriptions. But if the issue doesn’t resolve on its own or if it accompanies other symptoms (like fatigue, weakness, swelling, heart palpitations, weight loss, etc.) speak to a medical practitioner.

Beau’s lines

“Deep lines or grooves across your fingernails are known as Beau’s lines,” says Dr. Bhavini Shah of Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor.

These lines appear when nail growth has briefly slowed or stopped. “This temporary disturbance of nail growth is usually caused by severe illness or infection. Some people developed Beau’s lines after they had COVID-19, for example.”

In severe cases, the nail can stop growing long enough to form a full gap, which is medically known as onychomadesis. This can occur after major stresses like chemotherapy, injuries, and high fevers.

Beau’s lines can come and go without being a cause of concern but if it’s a recurring issue or you are experiencing onychomadesis, speak to your GP about what might be the cause.

Clubbing

Clubbed fingernails also affect the fingertips. As the nails curve downward, the fingertips begin to swell and cause discomfort.

This shift may not be noticeable since it can evolve over time. “Generally, red or purple lines under your nails are due to an injury.

But if you notice these and don’t recall injuring your nail, you might want to book a doctor’s appointment because these can be a symptom of heart disease,” says Shah.

“Clubbing can also be a suggestion of heart disease, a major cause of death worldwide. This is where the nail curves over rounded fingertips or the ends of the toes, resulting in a bulbous appearance.

Other symptoms that indicate heart disease include extreme fatigue, swollen ankles and pain in the chest, stomach, legs, arms, jaw or back.” Keep in mind that some people’s natural fingernails look clubbed.

Spooning

“Spoon-shaped nails that curve inwards can be a sign of iron-deficiency anemia,” says Dr. Shah. “This condition is common after pregnancy and is where the level of iron in your blood is too low.

Other symptoms include tiredness, shortness of breath, pale skin and headaches.” Iron deficiency could also occur because of lack of proper nutrition, celiac disease, or digestive issues.

“It’s important to identify the cause of iron deficiency anaemia so book an appointment with your GP if you have any concerns.

Your GP may recommend a blood test to check your red blood cell count.” Fortunately, it’s relatively easy to treat anemia by eating iron-rich foods and taking iron supplements.

Pitting or denting

“Small dents or pits on the surface of the nails are common in people with skin disorders such as psoriasis, eczema and alopecia areata (a specific type of hair loss),” according to Dr. Shah. “You’d expect other outward symptoms.

For example, psoriasis typically causes dry, scaly patches of skin, while eczema causes the skin to become dry, itchy, cracked and sore. Alopecia areata involves patchy hair loss.”

A dermatologist could diagnose the cause of these indentations in the nails. For mild cases where the pitting is causing no discomfort, no treatment is usually needed.

Some cases are treated with topical or injected corticosteroid and vitamin D3, often alongside treatment for the underlying condition causing it.

Melanoma

Many people are aware that cancer can appear as abnormal spots on their skin. But melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, could also occur on fingernails or toenails.

So if you notice a dark streak down a nail, refer to a dermatologist. A dark line isn’t always caused by cancer but it’s worth an examination because melanoma may be easy to treat if caught early.

Terry’s nails

“Named after the doctor who discovered the symptom, Terry’s nails is a nail condition where over two-thirds of the nail bed becomes white except for a red or pink strip at the nail tip. Terry’s nail is a tell-tale sign of liver disease,” says Dr. Shah.

“Other symptoms of the disease include fatigue, yellow skin and loss of appetite.” Terry’s nails could also occur as part of the natural aging process, or signs of other serious conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.

Yellow nails

There are many causes of yellow nails but the most common one is a fungal infection. This can lead to the nail bed retracting as the nails thicken and crumble. It may take some time to treat the infection but it’s often not painful.

However, in rare instances, yellow nails could be symptomatic of diabetes, psoriasis, thyroid disease, and lung disease.

Heartbreak For Harry And William. With Heavy Hearts, We Announce The Passing…

0

Lord Robert Fellowes, the private secretary to Queen Elizabeth II, was the uncle of Princes William and Harry and the brother-in-law of Princess Diana. He passed away at the age of 82.

Between 1990 and 1999, while three of the late monarch’s children were divorcing and Diana was passing away, the British courtier served as her primary advisor.

He supported the Queen during what she called her “Annus Horribilis” of 1992, which included the breakup of Charles and Diana, Andrew’s divorce from Sarah, Anne’s divorce, the burning of Windsor Castle, and a shift in public sentiment against the royal family.

Additionally, Mohamed Al Fayed, the owner of Harrods, ordered Lord Fellowes to refute his absurd allegations that he was complicit in a plot to kill his son Dodi and Diana.

In 1978, he married Diana’s older sister, Lady Jane Spencer, and together they produced three children: Alexander, Eleanor, and Laura, who happens to be Princess Charlotte’s godmother.

Actor Andrew Havill portrayed him in the Netflix series The Crown. In his later years, he served as Elizabeth II’s supplementary equerry until her death in September 2022.

Funeral arrangements have not been made public, and his cause of death was not divulged on Monday.

Reacting to his death, Diana’s younger brother Earl Spencer tweeted this morning: “My absolutely exceptional brother-in-law, Robert, is no longer with us.”

“A total gentleman—in all the best meanings of that word—he was a man of humour, wisdom and utter integrity. I’m deeply proud to have been his brother-in-law.”

Sir William “Billy” Fellowes, the estate manager from 1936 until 1964, who went shooting with King George VI, was the father of Lord Fellowes, who was born at Sandringham in 1941.

Jane Fellowes, his mother, was the granddaughter of Brigadier General Algernon Ferguson, the high sheriff of Northamptonshire and Sarah, the Duchess of York’s great-grandfather.

In an obituary published in The Times today, it is stated that the then-Princess Elizabeth was among the first to greet him upon his birth and subsequently noted, “Robert is the only one of my private secretaries I have held in my arms.”

Never going to university, he was dubbed the “Walking Wisden” at Eton College for his remarkable cricket knowledge.

Rather, he received a commission in the Scots Guards and served in the Army for three years, from 1960 to 1963, before moving to the City to work for Allen, Harvey, and Ross, discount brokers.

Following that, in 1977, he was appointed as the Queen’s assistant private secretary. A year later, in 1978, he married Lady Jane Spencer, with Diana serving as a bridesmaid.

After moving up the ranks at Buckingham Palace, he succeeded Sir William Heseltine as deputy private secretary in 1986 and became private secretary himself in 1990.

Soon after taking on the position, he assisted the Queen in getting through the ‘annus horribilis’ of 1992, during which she was confronted with a number of family scandals, including those surrounding the marriages of three of her children, Charles, Anne, and Andrew.

Windsor Castle suffered significant damage from a fire on November 20 of that year, which destroyed 115 rooms, including nine state rooms.

In a speech to more than 500 VIP guests at a Corporation of London Guildhall luncheon on November 24 in 1992 to mark her 40th year on the throne, Elizabeth II said: “1992 is not a year on which I shall look back with undiluted pleasure.”

It has proven to be “Annus Horribilis,” in the words of one of my kinder correspondents. I’m guessing I’m not the only one who feels that way.

The Queen parodied the more often used phrase “annus mirabilis,” meaning “year of wonders,” by using the Latin phrase “annus horribilis,” which translates as “terrible year.”.

The Queen was then chastised for not visiting London sooner when Diana passed away in 1997 while she was at Balmoral.

Although Lord Fellowes believed that the criticism was unjust, he ultimately concluded that a change of course was necessary and hastened her return to London.

He also wrote the first draft of her speech to the nation, which was widely praised when she referred to herself as “your queen and as a grandmother.”.

In 1999, he returned to the city to take up the position of chairman at Barclays Private Bank, passing the reins to his deputy, Sir Robin Janvrin.

After leaving the Royal Family, Lord Fellowes went on to become a life peer and served as chairman of the Prison Reform Trust in addition to a privy counsellor.

In 2008, he commented in an interview with the Daily Telegraph, “My life has been spent in quite a gilded cage.” Eton, the royal family, the Guards, and then Barclays. “To be introduced to a prison was a culture shock and very salutary.”

Lord Fellowes continued, “She was very good at it—an extraordinary communicator with a great feeling for the underdog.” in reference to his sister-in-law’s professional career.

“It never became patronising. She chose the areas where she thought she could make a difference, and on the whole, she did that.”

Furthermore, he gave an explanation for his choice to sit on the crossbenches in the Lords in a 2003 interview with The Times.

Lord Fellowes said: “In my previous life, I had to be apolitical, and it became a habit. It’s difficult for anyone who has been working in the private office of the sovereign to take a party whip.”

And being a crossbencher fits my disposition, even though my buddies think I’m a scary pinko. On December 11, 1941, Lord Robert Fellowes was born, and he passed away on July 29, 2024.

Worrying Melania Trump Detail From Photo Of “Whole” Trump Family On Election Night Has Everyone Talking

0

In the wake of this week’s US election, there is a ton to consider. Really, we wouldn’t be able to provide a thorough rundown even if we spent a whole month sorting through everything that has been stated, conjectured, and rumored in recent days.

It should come as no surprise considering that during his three election campaigns, Donald Trump has emerged as the most polarizing presidential candidate in history.

You have an opinion, whether you like him or not, and it’s a measure to his charisma and cult-like appeal that every aspect of his life, every tiny choice he takes, is scrutinized, dissected, and dissected in order to better comprehend what the heck is going on.

And it seems that his closest loved ones are included in it.

Articles on the rarely seen Barron Trump flooded the internet earlier this week, and countless right-wing lick-spittles have begged to be nearer to Donald in the hopes that they can catch some of his gleam.

Melania Trump is another. Just as she was a major player during her husband’s first tenure in the White House, the former model was an undeniable presence during his first two campaigns.

However, there is no denying that something has changed. Perhaps the mayhem brought on by her husband’s irrational outbursts following the 2020 election loss.

The depravity that transpired on Capitol Hill, or the heinous assault on democracy? Or was it the hush-money controversy surrounding the vile romance between Melania’s godly, virtuous husband and former porn star Stormy Daniels?

In the end, there are a thousand and one reasons why Melania made the decision that she would prefer to live in the background rather than be rolled out to stand at her husband’s side, showing all the affection and support of a wax figure.

Her absence is noticeable, which is my point. People have taken notice, and there are now rumors circulating in a number of places that Melania may decide not to return to the White House when Donald starts his second term in office.

According to the official line, she wishes to be closer in order to help her son, Barron, who is now a college student at the age of 18.

In any event, the Trumps’ posting of a family photo following Donald’s triumph against Kamala Harris earlier this week fueled the flames even more. Kai Trump, the eldest child of Donald Trump Jr., posted a picture of almost the entire Trump family—including Elon Musk—on Wednesday with the comment, “The whole squad.” Melania wasn’t involved either.

Many users on social media took notice of the former and future First Lady’s absence, openly questioning why the people in the picture couldn’t wait for her and what she might be doing that would prevent her from being in the picture.

Melania emerged from the depths of, well, who knows where, and spent the entire 2024 election day by her husband’s side.

That evening, she joined him as he delivered his victory speech from West Palm Beach. She wasn’t present when the aforementioned shot was taken, but she was there nonetheless.

Even though his ex-wife, Vanessa Trump, featured in the picture, Kimberly Guilfoyle, who has been engaged to Donald Trump Jr. since 2021, did not make the cut on election night.

Barron transformation

0

At just 13 years old, Barron Trump has captured the public’s attention as he towers over his parents, Donald and Melania Trump.

A recent video of Barron emerging from Air Force One alongside his parents has sparked a lively discussion and sparked curiosity. It’s clear that he has experienced a significant growth spurt since his last public appearance.

Barron’s towering height is truly remarkable, standing head and shoulders above his parents. It’s astounding how quickly children grow, and Barron Trump’s growth spurt has taken many by surprise. This glimpse into his life has left us all in awe as he stands as a towering figure among his family.

The rarity of Barron Trump’s public sightings has caused quite a stir on social media and attracted widespread attention.

People are amazed by Barron’s remarkable growth and physical transformation since his last appearance. It reminds us that even high-profile children are not immune to the passage of time.

However, we must remember that Barron Trump is still just a teenager trying to navigate life under the spotlight. The constant scrutiny and curiosity surrounding his public outings add immense pressure to his already unique upbringing.

Growing up as the child of such a prominent political figure like Donald Trump brings its own set of challenges and responsibilities.

Barron Trump has spent a considerable portion of his life shielded from the public eye, which is entirely understandable given his age and the desire for a normal childhood. But now, his recent appearance has piqued our curiosity about his interests, hobbies, and aspirations.

As Barron transitions into adolescence, it is crucial that we respect his privacy and provide him with the space to grow and develop as an individual.

Despite bearing the Trump name, he is his own person with dreams and ambitions that deserve recognition.

The attention he receives due to his family’s status should not overshadow his journey of self-discovery.

Being the son of a former U.S. president and first lady undoubtedly comes with unique experiences.

Barron Trump has been raised in a world of privilege and influence, but he is still finding his place in the world and shaping his own identity.

It will be fascinating to observe the path he chooses to follow and the impact he may have in his own right.

Barron Trump is not just a figure for our amusement; he is a child who deserves our empathy and understanding.

While his impressive height may draw attention, it is essential that we focus on his personal growth and development as an individual, rather than fixating solely on his physical appearance.

Barron Trump’s emergence into public view reminds us that all children, regardless of their background, deserve the space to grow and thrive.

It is our responsibility as a society to approach discussions about Barron with empathy and respect, allowing him the freedom to explore his own identity and passions without undue scrutiny.

As Barron Trump continues to mature and navigate his unique circumstances, let us provide him the same understanding and privacy we would offer any other young person.

Let’s celebrate his accomplishments and potential while recognizing the importance of granting him the space to be a teenager and discover his own path in life.

Kindness is a universal language, and sometimes the smallest act of kindness can spark the biggest change in someone’s life.

These 16 stories highlight the beauty and power of such moments, reminding us all that even the tiniest gesture can have an everlasting impact.

A Louis Vuitton Gift for a Waitress

In a bustling fast-food restaurant, a waitress found a forgotten Louis Vuitton purse left behind by a customer.

For weeks, it sat in the lost and found, unclaimed. When the manager offered the purse to the waitress, she accepted it, only to find a note inside: “To the girl who needed a new purse during the holidays.” The purse had been intentionally left for her, a thoughtful gift that boosted her confidence.

With it, she attended job interviews and eventually moved on to better opportunities. This small act of kindness changed her life and reminded her of the warmth that comes from giving.

A Child’s Drawing That Brightened a Lonely Day

On a quiet afternoon in a park, a woman was sitting alone, deep in thought about the challenges in her life. Suddenly, a young child ran up to her and handed her a colorful drawing of a sun and flowers.

“I made this for you,” the child said with a big smile. The simple gesture lifted the woman’s spirits and brought her joy, making her feel seen and cared for in a moment of loneliness.

Free Coffee for a Stranger

A man was standing in line at a café, searching his pockets for change, when the person behind him quietly paid for his coffee.

Surprised and grateful, the man thanked the stranger, who simply smiled and said, “Pass it on.” The gesture stayed with him, and later that day, he bought lunch for someone else, keeping the chain of kindness alive.

A Blanket for a Homeless Man

During a cold winter night, a passerby noticed a homeless man huddled in a doorway. Without hesitation, she went into a nearby store, bought a blanket, and handed it to him. The man’s eyes filled with tears as he thanked her.

It wasn’t just the warmth of the blanket—it was the warmth of someone caring that made all the difference.

A Note That Saved a Life

One evening, a woman left a heartfelt note on the windshield of a stranger’s car, complimenting their kindness in letting her have the parking spot.

What she didn’t know was that the driver had been struggling with depression and was contemplating taking their life that night.

The unexpected note reminded them that their presence mattered in the world and changed the course of their day—and life.

A Taxi Ride Paid Forward

A woman got into a taxi late at night, tired after a long day. When it came time to pay, the driver told her, “It’s on me.

Someone paid for my meal earlier, and I’m just passing on the kindness.” The woman was touched, and as she got out of the cab, she vowed to pay the kindness forward to someone else the next day.

Groceries for a Family in Need

At the supermarket checkout, a mother of three realized she didn’t have enough money to cover all her groceries.

A stranger behind her in line quickly stepped forward and paid the difference. The mother was overwhelmed with gratitude, and the stranger simply smiled and said, “I’ve been there too. Take care.”

A Teacher’s Extra Mile

A struggling student was falling behind in school, and her teacher noticed. Instead of giving up, the teacher offered to stay after school to help her catch up.

Week after week, the teacher dedicated extra time, which helped the student not only improve academically but also gain confidence. That small act of kindness shaped the student’s future success.

A Book Left for a Stranger

At a café, someone left a book on a table with a note that read, “For whoever needs this today.” A woman sat down, picked up the book, and opened it.

It was a novel she had wanted to read for months. The unexpected gift made her day, and she left her own note for the next person, continuing the cycle of kindness.

Flowers for the Elderly

A young man decided to buy a bouquet of flowers for an elderly woman he passed every day on his way to work.

When he handed them to her, her face lit up, and she told him it had been years since someone had given her flowers. That simple gesture brought her immeasurable joy and reminded her of the beauty in life.

A Bike Ride to Remember

A little boy was riding his bike when it broke down in the middle of a park. A passing cyclist stopped to help him fix it, spending nearly an hour showing the boy how to repair the chain and tires.

The boy’s smile at the end was priceless, and he rode off with newfound confidence, grateful for the kindness of a stranger.

A Meal Shared with a Neighbor

A couple noticed their elderly neighbor had been eating alone for weeks. One evening, they knocked on her door and invited her to dinner.

The neighbor was overjoyed and revealed that she had been feeling very lonely. That one dinner turned into a regular weekly gathering, brightening her days and forming a lasting friendship.

An Unexpected Gift at a Gas Station

A man was struggling to pay for gas when another driver approached him and offered to cover the cost.

The man hesitated but eventually accepted the help, and the stranger wished him well. The small act of generosity not only fueled his car but also restored his faith in humanity.

A Kind Word for a Struggling Parent

A mother in a grocery store was trying to manage her two young children, who were having a meltdown. Feeling embarrassed and overwhelmed, she almost gave up on her shopping.

A kind woman approached her and said, “You’re doing great. Parenting is tough, but you’ve got this.” Those few words lifted the mother’s spirits and gave her the strength to keep going.

Paying for Someone’s Laundry

A college student was at the laundromat when they realized they didn’t have enough quarters to finish drying their clothes.

A woman nearby noticed and handed them a handful of quarters with a smile. The student was so grateful for the kindness and later returned the favor by helping another person fold their laundry.

A Surprise Pizza Delivery

A group of friends decided to surprise their neighbor, a single parent working two jobs, with a pizza delivery one evening.

When the neighbor opened the door, they were overwhelmed by the gesture. The small act of kindness brought joy to the family, who hadn’t had a chance to enjoy a simple meal together in weeks.

These heartwarming tales remind us all that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound impact on others.

Whether it’s a kind word, a thoughtful gift, or just lending a hand, every gesture counts in making the world a better place.

Hurricane Rafael Tracker: Tuesday Evening, A Storm Passed Close To The Cayman Islands

0

Rafael was upgraded to a hurricane on Tuesday night and is set to pass over the Cayman Islands after it passed near Jamaica earlier in the day, according to the National Hurricane Center.

As of 7 p.m. ET Tuesday, Rafael was about 25 miles southeast of Little Cayman and had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph with stronger gusts.

According to the hurricane center, the storm is expected to move northwest over the following two to three days and reach western Cuba by Wednesday.

“Steady to rapid intensification is forecast over the next 24 hours or so,” the hurricane center said in its advisory Tuesday afternoon, adding that the storm is projected to be near or over Cuba on Wednesday night.

Hurricane Rafael path tracker

This forecast track shows the storm center’s most likely path. The storm’s center is likely to move outside the cone up to 33% of the time, and it does not depict the storm’s entire width or its effects.

Hurricane Rafael spaghetti models

A variety of forecast methods and models are used in the illustrations, and not all of them are made equal. The hurricane center only uses the top four or five models to assist in forecasting.

‘Tropical storm conditions’ expected in Cuba, parts of Florida

By Tuesday evening, the Cayman Islands are predicted to experience hurricane conditions. On Wednesday and Wednesday night, tropical storm conditions are predicted for the lower and middle Florida Keys as well as portions of west-central Cuba.

Rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches were predicted for parts of Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, and the southern and western parts of Cuba, with isolated totals of up to 10 inches in higher terrain.

During the middle to late portion of the week, the rain will move north into Florida and other parts of the southeastern U.S. The hurricane center predicts that the Lower and Middle Florida Keys will receive 1 to 3 inches of rain.

UPDATE

After striking the island as a Category 3 hurricane and destroying its electrical grid, Hurricane Rafael withdrew from Cuba on Thursday morning.

The threat to Mexico’s Gulf Coast is growing, but the hazard to the United States is decreasing due to a major change in the storm’s anticipated path.

After passing over Cuba, Rafael, now a Category 2 storm, made landfall in the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday night.

It is expected to continue its westward trajectory across the southern Gulf into the weekend. The storm will not make landfall as a weakened storm until early next week; it will remain in the Gulf for days.

As cleanup efforts begin, rain is expected to continue for the majority of Thursday, even if Rafael’s worst wind in Cuba ceased early.

The hurricane was the biggest this late in the year since 2020 and the fifth significant hurricane in the Atlantic this year, causing the island’s power grid to collapse.

Before making landfall in Cuba late Wednesday afternoon, the hurricane quickly grew stronger. Rafael is the ninth storm to swiftly intensify in the Atlantic basin this year; rapid intensification is becoming more common as the atmosphere and oceans warm as a result of pollution from fossil fuels.

Cuba is without power

Rafael, the second hurricane to strike Cuba in recent weeks and the first Category 3 storm to strike the island since Ian in 2022, dealt a catastrophic blow.

As Rafael got closer to the island, severe winds caused the national power infrastructure to collapse, according to government officials on Wednesday.

The head of the Electric Union’s national dispatch, Félix Estrada Rodríguez, told state television, “We had multiple trips of the load of the system in the western zone that caused oscillations in the frequency of the system and caused it to collapse completely.”

Videos of the aftermath showed electricity poles down on streets and power infrastructure in a twisted mess, though it is unknown how much damage was done and how much of an impact it had.

According to official media, hundreds of specialists were called in on Thursday to restore electricity connections.

The nation’s electrical grid has failed several times, most notably during Hurricane Oscar in October, which claimed the lives of at least seven people.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated on X that the storm had a significant effect on Artemisa, Mayabeque, and Havana.

Additionally, Diaz-Canel declared that he will personally supervise recovery efforts in the impacted areas.

Prior to landfall, thousands of people in the western province of Artemisa were evacuated from coastal areas, according to state television officials. Rafael’s core landed in the province, just east of Playa Majana.

Western and central provinces were placed under a condition of concern by the Cuban civil defense, which advised residents to restrict their travel.

On Wednesday afternoon, Havana’s normally busy streets were almost deserted. According to NOAA data, Rafael is the fiercest storm to hit the northwest Caribbean in November since 2009.

Significant shifts in Rafael’s course

Rafael initially appeared to have the potential to make a direct course for the United States, much like the five storms that came before it this year.

Parts of the Louisiana shore were included in the storm’s track forecast cone in the National Hurricane Center’s original forecast.

The forecast confidence has finally grown now that the storm is in the Gulf, and Rafael is predicted to stay in the southern Gulf of Mexico for the next few days instead of moving north and getting close to the US Gulf Coast.

Because of this, the cone has drifted far to the west, and the US is mostly safe, with the exception of parts of southern Texas.

Rafael’s final course could still change slightly in the days ahead, but the Gulf Coast of Mexico remains most vulnerable.

Rafael will likely return to tropical storm strength by the beginning of next week, long before landfall, after being battered by storm-disturbing winds over the weekend.

Over the next few days, Rafael will cause strong seas to churn up over the Gulf, which will have an indirect effect on the US Gulf Coast. Rip currents can also be dangerous.

Hurricane analyst Michael Lowry said Rafael was only the sixth hurricane to hit the Gulf of Mexico in November since 1966 when it made landfall Wednesday night.

Ahead to Rafael’s arrival, Chevron said that it was bringing all employees to shore and stopping production at oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.

Shell and BP both issued news statements stating that they had removed certain non-essential personnel from a number of drilling platforms.
