Former flight attendant Nassim previously shared with Express.co.uk her top tips to stay safe in the hotel room.

She said: “When I started flying I heard of a story where a crew member had gone into their hotel room and not checked it out properly and someone had hidden in the room.

“They got attacked so every time I got to a hotel room I would use my luggage case to keep the hotel door open. I then go inside and check everywhere.

“I would check the bathroom, under the bed, inside the wardrobes, under the table and behind the curtains to make sure that no one was in there.

“I would never ever enter a room without doing that,” she added. As some hotels don’t have chains, Nassim said that she always places her suitcase by the door.

The flight attendant explained why: “I would place my bag by the door in case someone opened it from the outside, then it would make a noise.”

“Put it the other way around and poke your toothbrush through it! Washbasins are not hygienic,” she recommended.

Esther advised: “Mirror steamed up and you have to leave quickly? Blow dry where necessary and it’s gone in no time.

“No speaker with you? Put your phone in a mug and you have loud sound!” the flight attendant added.

Chest Pain

Chest pain is also known as angina. It results from reduced blood flow to the heart because of built-up plaque in the arteries that lead to it.

Angina usually begins in the chest by the breast bone and then can extend into your left arm or shoulder, jaw, and upper back.

If you are experiencing ongoing chest tightness and pain, speak with your doctor immediately.

Shortness of breath

If you are experiencing shortness of breath, this could be because your pulmonary arteries are clogged.

While it is normal to feel short of breath after climbing the stairs or a physical effort, if it is more than usual, ongoing, and especially if it is when you are sedentary, you should have it looked at.

Weakness or numbness in one side of your body

If blood flow is restricted or cut off in your carotid arteries, it could cause you to experience weakness or numbness on one side of your body.

The carotid arteries are those that carry blood from the heart to the head and are located on either side of the neck.

They both split into two branches, one that carries blood to the brain and eyes and the other that takes it to the face, tongue, and outside parts of the head.

Slurring of words

Slurring your words could be a symptom of a number of conditions. One of those is that your carotid arteries are blocked.

This could either be the interior branch that carries blood to the brain, or the exterior branch that takes it to the tongue.

Vision Loss

Vision loss is a symptom of a clogged exterior branch of the carotid artery. This could be in one or both eyes.

If you are experiencing sudden decreased capacity to see or blurred vision, see your doctor right away.

Leg pain

There are a million and one reasons why you could be experiencing leg pain. One of these reasons could be clogged peripheral arteries.

These are the arteries in your legs and arms. Pain in one leg with no other explanation such as an injury could mean you have a clogged artery.

Cold feet

When blood can’t travel freely through your body, your extremities will get cold. Cold feet could mean that blood flow is blocked or restricted in your legs so that it is not reaching your feet properly. This could be a sign of a blocked peripheral artery.

Delayed healing of injuries of the feet

This goes along with the unexplained cold feet. Injuries need blood to heal. If the blood is not flowing there, or not flowing there sufficiently, these injuries will heal slowly or not at all. If you notice that injuries in your feet or lower legs are not healing as they should talk to your doctor.

Heart palpitations

Truthfully, anytime you notice changes in your heart rate, you should see your doctor. When your heart beat suddenly becomes noticeable, heart palpitations could be a sign that blood is not flowing the way it should.

This can feel like a heart pounding, fluttering, or beating irregularly. It will usually last for just a few seconds or minutes. It is possible that you will feel these sensations in your neck or throat, as well.

Joe Bryant, the father of the legendary NBA player Kobe Bryant, has tragically passed away at the age of 69. The news of his passing was confirmed by La Salle University’s athletics department.

According to reports, Joe Bryant had recently suffered a stroke, although the exact cause of death has not been confirmed.

He was a former professional basketball player himself, known affectionately by his nickname “Jellybean.” Joe Bryant hailed from Philadelphia, where he played college basketball for La Salle University from 1973 to 1975.

The Body Knows When Death is Near, and It Begins in Your Nose

Death of a loved one can hit us hard. It leaves us feeling lost and dejected in life. It is the most difficult thing in the world to cope from as it leaves a mark on us mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

You can’t just expect to cope from it in a day. It takes time to heal what is broken by the loss of the loved one. It even takes years to fully come out of the mental trauma you must have endured during that time.

However, some may argue it is a coincidence, while others are confident – people know when death is near.

It is natural to try and understand the death of someone we love or just imagine what happens in those final moments. Scientists know when someone dies, the body immediately begins to disintegrate.

Putrescine, for example, is a foul and toxic scent; the result of decomposition. Researchers have come to realize humans subconsciously recognize this putrefying odor. Not only that, the scent, when released, causes an immediate response.

Animals have the ability to smell the odour of others, causing them to react accordingly.
This is identical to sensing danger, whether from a predator or stronger and bigger animal from their pack.

A study conducted by Arnaud Wisman from the University of Kent’s School of Psychology in Canterbury, UK and Ilan Shira from the Department of Behavioral Sciences in Arkansas’ Tech University in Russellville, AK have discovered animals and humans might not be so different after all.

The ability to detect chemical scents is part of survival across the species. The warning of death is revealed through smell to humans.

Putrescine is a foul-smelling organic chemical compound that is related to cadaverine; both are produced by the breakdown of amino acids in living and dead organisms -meaning it is a chemical compound released when a body decays.

It also has a secondary function as a warning signal. People have both a conscious and subconscious reaction when they are exposed to this odour.

There were four different experiments conducted using putrescine, ammonia, and water to study people’s reaction.

One of the experiments included putrescine exposed at a site, people’s immediate response was to move away from the area.

This is the same response around fight-or-flight reaction. When animals sense they are in real danger, there are only two responses: fight the threat or run away from it. The study revealed people react the same.

There are other odours humans respond to as well like sweat. Separate studies have shown that sweat taken from people in fearful situations and exposed for others to smell generated an automatic and startled reflex.

“We do not know why we like (or dislike) someone’s smell, and we’re usually not aware of how scent influences our emotions, preferences, and attitudes,” explain Wisman and Shira.

“It is hard to think of a scent as frightening,” say other two leading researchers. These scents make people more aware and vigilant of their surroundings.

Humans’ natural reaction to danger is not to face it and fight. People tend to avoid any type of confrontation, whether its physical or verbal. For the most part, people choose to distance themselves until fight is the only option on the table.

The responses may be different from each other but putrescine and sex pheromone are based on scent.

Sex pheromones are chemicals released by the body to attract a mate while putrescine works as a warning signal.

“Putrescine signals a different type of message than pheromones, but people’s responses to putrescine (avoidance and hostility) do seem indeed to be the opposite of responses to many sexual pheromones,” explain researchers.

During the study, people were not aware they had a negative reaction to the scent.
“People are not familiar with putrsescine and do not consciously associate it with death or fear,” admits Wisman and Shira.
